A4.
In the Rosai, there is a compensation pension scheme specifically for workers who have a serious ongoing work-related injury and/or sickness. This scheme starts one and a half years from the date of the work-related injury and/or sickness. If your injury and/or sickness is classified by the Japanese national government as Class 1 to Class 3 and your condition is assessed as not stable, then the Loss of Income Compensation kyuugyo hosho can switch to the Injury and/or Sickness (Compensation) Pension shobyo (hosho) nenkin.
There are three components that may be paid to a recipient of the Injury and/or Sickness Compensation Pension: a) a basic pension, b) a special pension, if it applies, and c) a special one-off allowance.
The amount of your basic compensation pension is determined from your basic daily benefit and the classification of your injury and/or sickness. For Class 1, 313 days’ worth of the basic daily benefit (average wage) are paid as the Basic Injury and/or Sickness Compensation Pension shobyo (hosho) nenkin. The payments are less for Class 2 and less again for Class 3. The number of days for the calculation for the pension for Class 3 is 245 days. Likewise, if you receive bonuses as customary part of your wage, for Class 1, 313 days’ worth of the calculated bonus-type daily benefit will be paid as a Special Injury and/or Sickness Compensation Pension shobyo hosho tokubetsu nenkin. For Class 3, it is 245days. The compensation also includes a special one-off allowance shobyo tokubetsu shikyukin (1,140,000 yen for Class 1 to 1,000,000 yen for Class 3),
If the degree of your injury and/or sickness is assessed as not serious enough to meet the requirements for this compensation but you still cannot work, then the Loss of Income Compensation continues along with the payment of medical costs and other expenses associated with necessary care.
If your case is serious but is stable, then Injury and/or Sickness Compensation may not apply. Such cases are likely to be covered by Disability Compensation.
